A carrying capacity of about 180,000 dwt. Only the largest ports around the world possess the infrastructure to accommodate vessels of this size. They are primarily used to transport iron ore or coal and, to a much lesser extent grains, primarily on long-haul routes.
A carrying capacity of 75,000 - 82,000 dwt. They transport coal, iron ore, grains and to a lesser extent, minor bulks. They are more versatile than larger vessels with regard to accessing different trade routes.
A carrying capacity of 52,000 - 64,000 dwt. They primarily carry grains and minor bulks (such as fertilizer, bauxite, petcoke etc.). These vessels operate in a large number of geographically dispersed trade areas due to their versatile size and their gear.

Alexandros Kairis joined N.J.Goulandris in 1970, having graduated from Harvard Business School. His family were shareholders in both tankers and bulk carriers. During his long tenure there, he was involved in other facets of the shipping industry, noticeably by becoming Chairman of the UK P and I Club from 2000 – 2005. After the compulsory conclusion of his Chairmanship, he resigned from his position as Managing Director of N.J Goulandris in order to assist his eldest son in founding KBS Ltd. He remains a consultant, having delegated the administrative and managerial roles to his children.
Having graduated with honours in history from Brown University, he pursued his interest in current affairs by working for the BBC. He was involved in political programs and assisted in coverage of elections in both the UK and the USA. After a number of years at the institution, he decided to commence his future in shipping and completed an MSC in ship finance from Cass Business School. He spent a year at NJ Goulandris to get fully acquainted in all facets of the business. With the ambition of starting something individually, he propelled the formation of KBS Ltd. He has presided over that entity and is closely affiliated with another prominent organisation in the industry, namely Seatraders SA.
She graduated from Brown University in 2004 with Magna cum Laude. She then attained a Graduate Diploma in Law from City University and a Masters in Maritime Law from University College London, achieving commendation in both. From 2009, she was involved in the operations segment of KBS Ltd. and since 2011 oversees post fixing, insurance, legal and finance.
